Crafted as part of our Natural Series, this drum is meticulously engineered to optimize tone and excel in any musical scenario. Named after Gelert, the tragic Welsh folk tale about a faithful dog and his prince.
In the 13th century, Prince Llywelyn the Great and his princess left their baby in the care of their dog, Gelert, while they went hunting. While the prince and princess were away, a wolf attacked the baby's cradle. Gelert fought the wolf fiercely, killing it and saving the baby.
On their return, they found the baby missing and Gelert covered in blood. The prince believed Gelert had eaten the baby and killed him with his sword. After Gelert's dying yelp, the prince heard the baby crying and saw the dead wolf. The prince buried Gelert outside the castle walls, and the village was named Beddgelert, which means "Gelert's Grave".๏ปฟ
With a stunning outer veneer of olive wood surrounding a 13 ply 6x14 birch core, Gelert is our entry level snare. Its birch core provides plenty of attack, especially at higher tunings and enough warmth to suit any musical genre.
This snare is not to be underestimated! Built from the same Scandinavian birch found within our other snares and cold pressed in our moulds, Gelert is a versatile snare and is able to hold its own in any setting.
Finished with a natural hardwax oil, Gelert’s beautiful olive veneer is left with a subtle protective sheen and will sit nicely behind any drum kit.
